The Death Zone

The Death Zone is a term used to describe the high-altitude area above 8,000 meters (26,247 feet) on mountains, where the oxygen levels are extremely low and the human body struggles to function properly. Climbers in the Death Zone are at a high risk of altitude sickness, frostbite, and other life-threatening conditions. Mountaineers who attempt to summit peaks in the Death Zone, such as Mount Everest, must acclimatize themselves to the thin air by spending extended periods of time at lower altitudes before making their final push to the summit. Even with proper acclimatization, climbers face significant risks due to the extreme conditions in the Death Zone. The Death Zone has claimed the lives of many experienced climbers over the years, making it one of the most dangerous environments on Earth. Despite the risks, some climbers are drawn to the challenge and prestige of conquering peaks in the Death Zone.
